CVS deals

I have been a bargain shopper for a while with sales and coupons, but I’ve just started to read a couple of great blogs with deals and freebies.  I’ve noticed them talking about the great deals at CVS for a while, but finally got a chance to get my feet wet this week.  CVS has a rewards card program called ECB (Extra Care Bucks) which is just like getting dollars back on a credit card, only these dollars are only good at CVS.  You get 2% back on everything, and then they have bonus ECB deals each week.  This week, CVS is having a great sale on diapers, so I decided to sign up for ECB and give it a whirl.  Here’s how it went:

Transaction 1:

3 packages of jumbo diapers at 7.99 (saved 3.50/pkg)

3 cans of Pringles at .88 (saved .91/pkg)

1 box of Kelloggs Rice Krispies at 1.88 (saved 2.51/box)

Coupons: 3.50

Spent 26.67 Out Of Pocket, got 5 ECB, saved 19.24.

Transaction 2:

1 package of jumbo diapers at 7.99 (saved 3.50 pkg)

2 tubes of toothpaste at 3.59 but BOGO (saved 3.59)

Coupons: 3.00

Spent 4.04 Out Of Pocket and used 5 ECB, saved 15.09.

Now, given that CVS’s prices are much higher than Meijer or Walmart, I didn’t actually save as much as it looks like from initial observation, but I did get 120 diapers at .18/diaper.  Normally, I use a coupon and buy boxes and spend between .25 and .28 a diaper, so that’s a HUGE savings on something I’ll definitely use!

Thanks to these blogs for all their money saving tips:
